The Grammar School is an independent, co-educational school for students of academic promise and strong personal motivation, open to students of all nationalities. The School has a strong commitment to education in general and excellence in teaching and service to society in particular. The purpose of the School is to create an academic and social environment in which students are challenged, guided and supported to develop and achieve their personal and academic goals. Students are encouraged to become independent, effective, active, rational and creative thinkers and citizens who appreciate and respect social, moral and ethical values.
The project aims to identify the problems and concerns of both minorities and of local people and later take action to improve tolerance/acceptance of different cultures. Information gathered and the analysis of results will be posted on a website to be setup, accumulated to produce a relevant CD/DVD and posted on a calendar.
Having in mind the international character of the school, the multicultural identity of Cyprus and Europe and necessary respect, acceptance and tolerance of all individuals, sets this high in the agenda of the School.
Students of The Grammar School, working in groups with teacher guidance, will conduct interviews/questionnaires among various minorities and local people. Religions, customs, ethics, traditions and culture will be studied and recorded in various forms including photographs and videos. Each group will analyze their findings and all results will be accumulated to produce the necessary material for presentations, the website, CD/DVD and the calendar. Major emphasis will be placed on the dissemination of results to the school and local community. Copies of the final products will also be given to the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture, the Cyprus Lifelong Program and non-governmental organizations. The opportunity to visit another partner school will be given to as many students as possible so students benefit from the exposure to a different culture.
To ensure the proper conduct of all activities, one team member will have the responsibility of monitoring that deadlines are met, organizing necessary meetings, conducting all necessary communication, both with partners or other organizations and produce and submit the relevant documents, material and end result produced. As regards the project's financial management, one team member will keep detailed records of all the costs incurred.
